Fried ote-ote!!! Never heard about them?? come on let's discuss what is ote-ote and how to make ote-ote. Although the name is wierd but this food is really tasty and delicious. Ote-ote is a traditional Indonesian snacks food. For how to make it it's very simple and quick, and today i will make a vegetarion version of this Fried Vegetables ote-ote so all vegetarian food lovers could join us to eat this delicious snack.


If you live in Indonesia now then you will easily get this ote-ote, lot of hawker food vendor who sells these snack because these snack also include street hawker food. But there are also great restaurants and famous make ote-ote with high quality ingredients, so their ote-ote have a high class and also expensive price.


Tell me the basic ingredients!!!
The basic ingredients of ote-ote snack are flour and water mix with vegetables, spices and herbs. From this basic you could create new and innovative ote-ote by adding your special ingredients.


How do you shape it like UFO?? it's easy, try to use a small stainless soup ladle and before you pour the ote ote batter into the soup ladle, try to heat up the soup ladle into hot oil first.

Ingredients :

  • 8 tablespoons high protein flour
  • 6 tablespoons rice flour
  • 200 ml water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon M.S.G
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kikkoman soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate
  • 50 grams white cabbage
  • 1 pieces carrot
  • 20 grams beansprout
  • 1-rod leaf leek
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cloves shallot
  • 4 cups cooking oil
  • 10 pieces green chili


Directions :

  1. Cut white cabbage, carrot, and leaf leek into thin sliced.
  2. Chop the shallot and garlic until smooth.
  3. Ote ote batter : Mix 8 tablespoons high protein flour, 6 tablespoons rice flour, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon M.S.G, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon Kikkoman soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, 1/4 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate, chopped garlic, chopped shallot into a bowl, pour the water slowly and stir evenly, using ballon whisk or tablespoon add shredded cabbage, carrot, leaf leek and beansprout and stir again until mix well.




Methods :

  1. Heat 4 cups cooking oil into a pan, pour the ote ote batter into small stainless soup ladle then deep fried until the head of the soup ladle is sunk, deep fried about two minutes over low heat and then shake the soup ladle to pop off the ote ote, continue deep fry until is golden brown, remove and serve.
  2. Garnish with green chili on top.
